John Long is a rock climber and author, best known as one of the top Yosemite climbers of his generation and as author of the best-selling “How To Climb” series.

John took part in the first one-day ascent of the Nose of El Capitan in 1975, as well as first ascents of difficult free routes in Yosemite, Tahquitz Rock, Suicide Rock, and Joshua Tree. He has authored accounts of outrageous adventures in Baffin Island, Yosemite and Irian Jaya, and is a regular contributor to Rock and Ice Magazine.

John is nothing if not obsessive once he fixates on a new challenge. After meeting Kris Holm at an industry tradeshow in 2004, John decided to take up mountain unicycling and has relentlessly pursued technical trail riding ever since.

John’s 35+ years of climbing and new passion for muni is inspiring to anyone pursuing a lifetime of adventure, and is a wake-up call for those who think it’s too late to try something new.
